Treah Caldwell
Psychotherapist and Owner
Who I am as a therapist: My practice is informed by relational counseling theories, poetry, mindfulness, disability justice, harm reduction and a deep desire to dismantle systems of oppression for all.
I received a Masters of Arts in Clinical and Counseling Psychology in 2011 from William Paterson University. In 2015 I completed a certificate program at Metropolitan Counseling Services. Additionally, I have years of experience working with issues related to trauma and its impact on the body. I have studied extensively on the topics of the treatment of trauma, power dynamics in the therapy room, harm reduction in psychotherapy and toxic professionalism in mental health care. A bit about me personally: I am white, southern, chronically ill, fat and a bad babe. I am non monogamous, a wife, a girlfriend, a daughter and an animal guardian. I love to dance and swim.
What to expect
Over the past 10 years in the mental health field, I have learned a lot about what I need to ensure my life as a clinician is sustainable for many years to come. It is my hope that, in tending to myself, you will also consider your own needs as a valued part of our work together. My practice is deeply relationionally informed and I live with a chronic disability/pain condition. As such, sessions are conducted by video telehealth and in-person on Mondays in Brookhaven.
I prefer meeting with clients on a weekly to bi-weekly basis. I offer a complimentary 15-30 minute phone or video consultation to explore the possibility of working together. I will periodically take a few days and generally a week off one week a quarter. I will do my best to give you as much notice as possible. Chronic illness can be unpredictable, there is more info about my cancellation policy in my detailed paperwork. I do what I need to make myself comfortable in our sessions and I encourage you to do the same. My private practice rates are non-negotiable unless we have previously agreed on a sliding scale fee agreement, I keep approximately 30% of spots in my caseload on sliding scale and a pro bono basis. I have donated thousands of dollars in sliding scale fees and hundreds of hours of pro bono sessions to folks holding marginalized identities prioritizing queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, people of color (QTBIPOC), disabled, femme, low-income, survivors, and all other oppressed people over the financial comfort of those in privileged positions. (language from the Anti-racist Education Working Group) If any of these practice terms are challenging for you, that is ok! I am not for everyone and my private practice is not for everyone. I would love to help you find the practice and practitioner that is right for you, don’t hesitate to reach out!
