Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What happens when I reach out?
Your first interaction with me will be when we schedule on the phone (or virtually) for a free 15-30 minute intro "get to know you" conversation for us to learn more about each other so I can determine if I have the skills to support you, clinically and more importantly if you think I'll be a good fit for you. Don't worry if we're not a match, I have a community of incredibly skilled and passionate colleagues I can refer to you! Then, if you decide you want to try working with me, you'll come see me in-person at my Brookhaven office for what's called an intake session. During this session, I will ask questions about your background, what brought you to therapy, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. The intake session is different from regular therapy sessions in that it feels more like a structured interview where weekly therapy sessions are much more conversational and laid back.
You donβt need to do anything to prepare for your first session, but it can be helpful to think about what's going on for you before you come in. During that initial session you and I will come up with a plan that includes price, frequency of sessions, and how we'll meet since I do in-person and virtual sessions.

How long does therapy take? How long do sessions last?
Therapy is highly individualized, so the length of time it takes can vary widely based on your goals and the issues you are addressing. Some people find relief after a few sessions, while others engage in therapy for several months or years. As my client you and I are a team and we'll often be in conversation about how you think things are going and it's also part of my job to give you feedback about the very same thing so we're in it together! Individual sessions are 50 minutes long, while couples, groups and family therapy sessions can last longer. Some clients prefer 100 minute sessions which I am happy to accommodate just let me know ahead of time what you need.
